Unless you have an expert level of knowledge on plants, it can be very difficult to choose which gardening plants to put in your garden and when. Not only do you need to consider what part of the garden they will thrive in, you also need to think about how long they will take to grow fully and flower.

The best displays of gardening plants look completely natural; they don?t look as if a great deal of time and thought has gone into making them look as they do. This is the ultimate goal for any gardener, but the easy look can be tricky to achieve.

Considering Color

The colors of the gardening plants you decide on are a very personal choice. We all have our favorite plants, and color is very often a deciding factor in choosing the ones to plant in our beds and baskets.

A beautiful display of gardening plants can be achieved by choosing a specific color and then finding a range of different shades of that color to plant as a mix. This works particularly well in pots and hanging baskets, where the co-ordination of shades can be viewed at their best.

Don?t Forget The Height

It is very important to read the packaging on any gardening plants, seeds or bulbs you buy, as they may end up growing much taller than you think. The rule of thumb is to plant the taller ones at the back of any display, and the smaller ones in front.

If you are planting a display from seed, make sure you lay the packets out in order of height before planting them. This will ensure there is no confusion during the process ? and no surprises when the plants start to grow.

Overcrowding can be another common problem with gardening plants, so make sure you read the instructions of any that you are planning to put next to each other, to make sure you allow them both the right amount of room. Some will spread more than others.

In the end, gardening skills come with experience and whichever gardening plants you like and use often, you will find you become better at producing good results over time. Everyone has slightly different tips and techniques they use to make their plants look good, and whatever works for you will be what makes your garden look fantastic.
