From time to time modernizations are associated by astounding and funny conditions.

The Strandkoerbe

The history of the roofed wicker beach chairs started with an, let´s call it - indisposition of an older lady, born in Rostock. Her rheumatism was a trigger for a momentous invention of a local basketmaker from Warnemünde, Germany. At the there located imperial beach resort our lady intended to spend her vacations - whether despite or because of her back pain, belongs in the realm of speculation.

You can take it for sure, with the heavy winds blowing over the beach she didn´t have the best conditions around for her recovery. But being a stubborn lady she nevertheless succeeded with her undertaking. A local basketmaker, Wilhelm Bartelmann, provided help. He started building a special furniture, solid enough to protect its users against stormy winds. This invention was called a “beach stool”. The German term for this construction has become Strandkorb.

This roofed wicker beach chairs, invented in this way in 1882, wasn´t in line with what we have in mind thinking of a comfortable and good looking seating. The 1-seater rather resembled a large box than a and had a strong vertical alignment. But the first 2-seater, constructed shortly after in 1883, already went more into the direction of our current aesthetic expectations regarding a beach chair. Users could stretch out their whole bodies with this new style.

In the same year the first Strandkorb could be rented. A hiring service was founded in Warnemünde near the lighthouse, managed by
the basketmaker´s wife, Elisabeth Bartelmann. The business of the truly engaged Bartelmann couple expanded in the period following.

So with the arising of the 20th century the roofed wicker beach chair had been
well established as an usual piece of furniture along the beaches. In the twenties roofed wicker beach chairs took off for a remarkable national and international career. Nowadays you will find them all across Germany (even in the German “Texas”, that means the region of Bavaria), Europe and even in Japan.

One way to start a small garden design is by planning, pay attention to the time on the package each plant takes to produce vegetables. If the plant takes seventy five days to produce, a person doesn’t want to plant the entire space with that single plant. The trick is to plan alternate days for the entire crop by planting the garden at different times. Small garden design must have perfect planning. Even though the package says how long a plant needs to grow that doesn’t mean that it will work out the way it was planned. Make sure that you have allowed this into your small garden design and allow for some flexibility for different growth rates. The way to make the small garden design more useable within the square foot garden is to plant different vegetables into their own area and as they mature the person picks the harvest and then plant a new crop.

And with the advent of online shopping, the hardest part about buying your very own indoor or outdoor water fountain is picking just the right one. If you want to add charm and character to your home, try looking at specialty wall fountains. These works of art come in a wide number of styles, including angel designs, vestaglia designs, and animal figures. Vestaglia designs are particularly unique; these fountains come with human-shaped designs; these wall fountains are often lavish and ornate, especially in a burnished gold or brass finish. Take a look!

Green Roses

One of the most exquisite roses available is the green rose. It is
believed that they have been grown since 1743. They were brought on the market by Bembridge and Harrison of Great Britain in 1856 and enjoyed instant popularity. What is different about them besides color is the fact that the flowers are mostly sepals instead of petals. It’s as if the plant had the petals bred out of them and grew more sepals to compensate.

St. Patrick now a days is no longer just the name of a saint or a holiday which comes in March. These days, gardeners who hear the phrase St. Patrick would definitely think of the kind of rose that turns out to be the greenest of all the roses. Green roses these days come in an array of shapes as well as shades, but they are definitely not the most widespread roses that you may spot in the nurseries.

Pink Roses

Some types of green roses are very unlikely to come by. These green roses are rare but sometimes can be found if one looks to the right florist, and just has some luck. These green roses are hybrids, made from a lot of different people from all over the world.

The sepals of these roses are similar to leaves which surround the buds before they open and thus provide protection. Then they eventually separate to enable the blossoms to emerge and show their lovely colors and finally detach entirely so that the flower’s petals can unfurl.

The sepals are generally a very beautiful component of the flower, mainly if their soft ends widen above the top of the bloom. When they go down, permitting the petals to unwrap, they are usually a very ornamental foundation to a gorgeous flower.

While nearly all of a rose is beautiful, lots of people think the most perfectly beautiful part are the petals of a rose: the color of them, how they are arranged, the scent and the essence of the flower. No matter the color, rose bouquets are loved as a present by anyone.

Florists
One of the most exquisite roses available is the green rose. What is different about them besides color is the fact that the flowers are mostly sepals instead of petals. In reality, many of these varieties of green roses are difficult to locate indeed, even though some of these roses can be bought through some florists delivery shops. The sepals are usually the part which is a very beautiful component of the flower, it usually occurs if the soft ends grow wider above the top part of the bloom. No matter the color, rose arrangements are loved as a present by anyone.

Sometimes it just takes common-sense to know if a certain lawn service provider is what you need. Aside from asking the fee they charge and the service they offer you must also take into consideration how long they have been in the business. It would be a plus if each of the workers of a certain lawn care service company has undergone training. This way you are confident that they will properly take care of your lawn even without your supervision. Finding an Illinois lawn companies is not too difficult.

Experience is very important when providing lawn care service. Maintaining the lawn is not only about trimming or weeding. There is more to it that you expect it. It is your responsibility as a homeowner to make your surrounding well-maintained. It does need to be landscaped it just needs to be clean and constantly maintained.

Being able to communicate properly is also needed. You will basically welcome strangers at your home so you want to make sure that both parties understand each other. It is not bad to set your rules when the lawn care service provider is at your home. You just want to make sure that everything will be organized. And every change in the plan must be communicated by each party.

Time is another important thing to consider. Ask the lawn care service provider when is the right time to do the lawn and landscaping?

You might be hiring professionals to do your lawn or do some landscaping when a typhoon is about to hit the country. This will just be a waste of time and money. And if it is the perfect time then ask when they can be finished. You do not want dirt or mud scattered everywhere in your front porch for a very long time.

These are all practical matters that should be asked when looking for a lawn care service provider. You want to make sure that you get your money’s worth and that time is used wisely.

Having the best landscape around your property can add a lot of value to your house and provide a therapeutic pastime on the weekends. Although some view gardening as difficult work, it can really be quite fun and relaxing. Additionally, once you have put the work into your yard, you will more than likely be very proud of the results and want to continue to uphold and potentially add on to your design.

Depending on your location, there are many different options available while planning the perfect outside landscape. For example, a house owner in Arizona may want a rock, or desert landscape to reduce water consumption. While someone in the Pacific Northwest may choose to have a lush lawn with plenty of green and colorful shrubs and plants. Both choices will look terrific, it is just a matter of figuring what fits your needs.

Another way to spruce up the outside of your house is with sun powered lighting. If you have a garden, you can add a little decoration by placing solar garden lights throughout the area. This can pinpoint your favorite plants and make them seen not only during the day, but in the dark as well. In addition, if you have a well kept and manicured lawn, solar yard lights can add a pretty touch. These look awesome if symmetrically placed around the property. They are also a good way to outline walk ways or perhaps your driveway.

Installation of these lights is very easy. They require no wiring or electrical knowledge as the sun gives all the power. Normally solar powered lights can easily be staked into the ground where you see fit and will glow through the dark without the use of electric energy. What a great way to show off your yard at night while saving on energy costs!

Finally, if you have ever had a family member who enjoyed the outdoors, there is no better way to honor them than with memorial tributes in your garden. Perhaps you can have a small monument made and surround it with their favorite plants to pay tribute to their days. This can be done easily in a garden or perhaps made a focal piece in the center of the area. If done correctly, a memorial tribute in the garden can be the ultimate way to pay your respects to a loved one.

Before beginning any landscaping project, be sure to have a well laid out idea. Talk with local plant nurseries to find out what will grow and look good in your area. Finally, have fun! The results will be a thing you can enjoy for many years to come.

Every article I write has to do with helping your lawn and landscape look better. I have given you tips and tricks ranging from fertilizing to trimming and even talked about rain and watering. But what is it all for?

The reward of having a nice lawn or landscape is all in the enjoyment. There is nothing like popping a new coffee pod into your single cup coffee maker and enjoying a fresh, piping hot cup of Joe while taking the scents of freshly cut grass up into your nose piece!

Not only does freshly trimmed grass smell good, so do well-tended flowers. I just love the spring time when my tulips come up starting in March and push beautiful fragrance across my yard and into the neighborhood. In addition, the magnolia tree in my front yard blooms profusely in mid-April and offers a light pink color pop coupled with a sweet fragrance unmatched in nature. That is a great reward.

I also have to mention the ego rewards that go along with having a well-tended lawn and landscape. I just love it when I see a car roll by my house and slow down to check out the well-defined striping in my lawn. I am big on making those stripes and get a lot of questions about how to do it from people in my neighborhood.

I also enjoy shaping and trimming my trees and shrubs. Now I don’t go out and carve Mickey Mouse ears in my bushes or anything too crazy like that, but I do take time and make sure they look right. There are two schools of thought here and I actually do a little of both.

With a lot of deciduous trees and shrubs, you can keep a natural look while exposing some of the interesting bark patterns. But with evergreens, you can go for the tightly shaped look. Some people like their evergreens to be trimmed like a well-groomed poodle.
Whichever way you choose, the rewards are having your house looking nice from up close and afar.

The last reward you get with keeping your lawn and landscape in good shape is the overall health and value plants add. When you go to sell your home someday, a nice lawn and healthy landscape will give you curb appeal. In addition, a well-tended landscape tells potential buyers that you care about your place, and gives them a sense that they are buying quality.

I hope these ideas will get you fired up to have a nice lawn and landscape: not just out of sheer hard work, but because of the benefits they bring. You might also get a whole new outlook on the enjoyment that single cup coffee brings you every morning.

Installing your garden fountain – filling it up with water, plugging it in – is not enough. If you are going to commit to purchasing an outdoor water fountain, you should also commit to maintaining it properly. The elements (the weather, the sun and the rain, animal influences and other external factors) are the enemies of outdoor water fountains. Exposed to the open air, your outdoor fountain will inevitably suffer from dust and debris, which are rather harmful to the smooth operation of your fountain. To ensure that dust and debris don’t clog up your pump, seek out specially made fountain cleaning formulas (available online or in garden specialty stores). Before you use these treatments, thoroughly clean all noticeable algae from the basin; algae, too, can seriously harm the function of your garden water fountain.

Most people think that growing orchids need special care and treatment. Also, it sometimes needs an extra patience. Therefore, growing orchids is considered as only expert’s job.

Are there warily hidden secrets to growing orchids successfully? Not really. These plants can be grown in nearly all houses. After choosing a range of these plants that have been tailored to your certain area, take into account these few essentials and presently your family and friends will be praising you on your green thumb.

“Must-Haves” for Orchids Care

necessities that must be provided to best result. These basics of growing orchids include the exact amount of light and water and a controlled temperature and humidity level. This isn’t very difficult and as soon as your plants are set up in your home, you will know that caring these essentials take up only a small percentage of your time. Let us take a closer look at all of these requirements.

The best place for growing orchids is on your sunniest windowsill. Make certain that the plants are kept free from drafts and that the window receives sunshine in the mornings and afternoons. A southern exposure is best. If your windows are very large, and thus the amount of sunlight is intense, place the plants about 20 inches from the windowpane.

If you plan to growing orchids in your home, your orchids will benefit from the intensity of the sunlight, but also need a period of time in the shade. If you don’t have a sunny windowsill, think about using fluorescent lighting. Keep the lights on for 12 hours a day as a minimum to insure proper growth and flowering of the orchids. Use fluorescent lighting that has been made for plants.

Another factor that is important in growing orchids is providing the right amount of water. There are two points to consider in watering your plants in a proper amount. First, you must know the water requirements of your particular species. The second thing to bear in mind is to water only when the potting soil or growing medium is dry. As information, orchids potted in a bark mix or clay pot need more regular watering.

Keeping the right temperature and humidity level is also essential in growing orchids. Placing pots of orchid plants on decorative pebbles in a water-filled tray boosts the humidity level to a suitable degree. Misting the plants is a good practice, but don’t steep them need of your particular species before you set the proper temperature level. Don’t be afraid that your orchids can not grow well. Commonly, they will customize themselves properly to their home environment. Happy growing orchids!

Pool Enclosures are extremely effective in providing safety and security for your pool .

Pool Enclosure

Having your own swimming pool in the back garden is a real pleasure. However it there’s also a great deal of responsibility, particularly when kids are around.

There are not the legal regulations in the UK forcing swimming pool owners to take precautions, however it’s clear that you should make sure your pool is secure when not in use. This is not just for your family, but also for friends and guests. And this also includes adult parties, particularly where there is alcohol around.

Unfortunately incidents do happen. Every year in the US, more than three hundred kids under five years old, drown in swimming pools at homes. Usually these are owned by their family. Additionally two thousand children in that same age group are treated for submersion injures.

That said, there are quite a number of options on the market to prevent these incidents. They all provide different levels of safety for your pool .

Unfortunately there is no single solution that is right for all pool , but it is more a case of looking at your individual needs, and also the size and shape of your pool.

Here’s a sample of the wide range of options and budgets.

At the entry level, is the ‘in pool’ pool alarm . This type of alarm is law in France, and you must provide an effective safety alarm/barrier for your pool, or face a hefty fine. These laws have now extended to Spain and other parts of Europe, but the UK for some reason are not enforcing it, despite a number of recent cases of accidents.

pool alarms are available in many different shapes and sizes, but basically this is a safety device that is fixed on your pool edge or coping stones, and is activated if someone falls in the pool. These alarms work by sensing pressure changes within the pool. A simple pool alarm starts at around £150 and goes up to around £350.

An alternative to the ‘in Pool’ is the electronic perimeter system. This is basically 4 posts positioned at the corners of your pool, which can be fixed approximately 1 metre away from your pool . Each of the posts can send and receive an infrared signal, which creates an invisible perimeter around your pool .

The added benefit of these is that they can prevent the accident even happening. Once someone crosses the invisible barrier, the alarm sounds. This electronic type system generally costs around £400-£600. One possible negative point to this system is that you can’t actually see the barrier, and therefore cannot be confident it is actually working or not.

An alternative to this is an actual fence, or physical barrier, which should be at least 1 metre high (AFNOR stated minimum height) all around your pool . This should also have an alarmed gate for additional safety .

Depending on your actual pool size, shape, and location, and the fencing material, this system is more likely to cost in excess of £1,000. But, the benefits are that it is a physical barrier, and very obvious. However the down side is that they can spoil the pool environment and surround. And, if the gate should happen to be left open at any time, then the fence becomes an ineffective barrier.

Swimming Pool Enclosure Models

A finally option, would be a pool enclosure. These meet the tough AFNOR safety standards, in terms of providing an effective safety barrier for your pool.

However, as purely a safety solution, a Pool Enclosure would be a very expensive. But, they do offer many other benefits, such as providing free heating, low maintenance, allowing you to use ad enjoy your pool, for more of the year.

Whatever your choice, your pool should always be safe.

With technology today, killing pests in and around the home is simple, quick and efficient. But is it natural or organic? Can these terms fit the bill when it comes to being “safe” and still doing the job? There are ways to eliminate pests naturally, in other words, organic pest control, but they do not involve chemicals.

This is why all homeowners are advised to familiarize themselves with different methods of natural pest control that are sure to remove or lessen the presence of any pest while avoiding any possible side effects that non-natural methods provide. In this article, we list some common household pests and the most natural methods of controlling them.

Ants – they can be found in almost any place as long as there is a potential food source for them. This is why the most natural pest control for ants is to remove any possible food source for them. Keeping kitchens and tables clean after eating as well as covering all types of food containers can really produce results.
You should also seal up all cracks in brick or mortar or foundations where ants can invade the home.

Cockroaches – The sight of cockroaches can really evoke some feelings that are better left unsaid as these insects are often associated with a dirty and unsanitary environment. The best natural pest control method for them is to keep the house clean and dry as much as possible especially in the kitchen and bathroom areas.

Mosquitoes – these are one of the main carriers of many diseases and their bites can really prove to be irritating to anyone. The most natural pest control for them is to remove all still water areas where they can breed and prevent them from entering the house by using screens and placing mosquito repellents on doors and windows.

By making use of these natural pest control methods, any homeowner can reduce or eliminate the existence of these common household pests. Vist Illinois pest control companies for more information.

One of the most delightful ways to make a fast change to your household decor is by employing the instant ambiance of inside plants and flowers.
However, many householders don’t have a natural green thumb and are shy of the thought of long term maintenance for living indoor plants.
It takes rather a bit of know-how to keep live interior plants in good condition and well, alive.

There are so many things that can go wonky with indoor plants that you sometimes wonder if it’s worth all the trouble.
If it’s not fungus infections, it’s insects or too much sunlight or not enough sun or too much water or the room is too cold. It all becomes a bit much, not to mention costly over the long term.

Silk plants are the answer. You can choose these days from a full range of indoor silk indoor plants from silk ferns, silk palms, silk floor plants and flowers, silk cactus and silk trees, silk orchids, silk hanging plants, silk palms, topiaries, bonsais and wreaths.
One additional bonus is being able to choose the size you want to accommodate your room. It really is an easy design choice to make if you are looking for a quick makeover for your home.

As silk plants are synthetic, there is no need to water them or make sure that they have enough sunlight. You only need to [spin occasionally|once in a while|now and then[/spin] clean the plant to make sure its color and freshness is maintained.

Some of the advantages of using silk plants include the following:
They look great all the time.
You don’t have to be concerned about them when you go on holidays
They will never get bigger
They need no upkeep except an occasional dust
They are not pet playthings
They offer long-term term value for money
They don’t draw bugs or mold
Good quality silk plants are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing
They are great for a quick decor face-lift.

Many house decorators use silk plants to give a longevity to their design work. It makes sense and offers ongoing value to their clients.

Hydroponics systems

Urban growers go high-tech

Terry Fujimoto sees the future of agriculture in the exposed roots of the leafy greens he and his students grow in thin streams of water at a campus greenhouse.

The program run by the California State Polytechnic University agriculture professor is part of a growing effort to use hydroponics _ a method of cultivating plants in water instead of soil _ to bring farming into cities, where consumers are concentrated.

Because hydroponic farming requires less water and less land than traditional field farming, Fujimoto and researchers-turned-growers in other U.S. cities see it as ideal to bring agriculture to apartment buildings, rooftops and vacant lots.

“The goal here is to look at growing food crops in small spaces,” he said.

Long a niche technology existing in the shadow of conventional growing methods, hydroponics is getting a second look from university researchers and public health advocates.

Supporters point to the environmental cost of trucking produce from farms to cities, the loss of wilderness for farmland to feed a growing world population, and the risk of bacteria along extensive, insecure food chains as reasons for establishing urban hydroponic farms.

Perfecting the Use of Aroma Enhancers in Your Garden

Whenever you grow flowers in hydroponics, you probably are only interested in growing the largest and best smelling flowers possible. These two things, however, do not go hand in hand. It is entirely possible to have a flower that is heavy, large, and even rich in color, but severely lacking in the scent that makes flowers so appealing. This can be extremely frustrating, but fortunately, it is very avoidable if you use a good aroma enhancer.

Aroma Enhancers are special hydroponic supplements that contain a lot of ingredients designed specifically to improve the smell of flowers. When used correctly, they can turn flowers that smell dull into something that has a lot of complex and perfumey scents.

Here are some of the most common ingredients that aroma enhancers contain to beautify your flowers and plants.

Select Bio molecules- There are lots of bio molecules that have a very special effect on the health and development of your plant, like polyphenolics, terpenoids and anthocyanins. These kinds of ingredients, when introduced into your plant, help produce the kind of oil and other elements that help create the flower’s signature scent. This is why the best aroma enhancers load up your flowers with exactly these kinds of ingredients.

Sugars - One of the oldest and most effective ways to increase the aroma of flowers is to provide them with special sugars. Things like molasses, cane sugar, corn syrup and other sweet stuff gets absorbed into the plant and has a positive effect on the scent. Molasses in particular is notable for its high level of both sugar and scent boosting biomolecules.

Grow Great Tasting Herbs Through Aeroponics Gardening Systems

An indoor herb garden grown by an aeroponic system is a rewarding experience for those looking to not only begin a wonderful new hobby but also craving fresh herbs to serve friends and family. You may not realize it but growing plants and herbs through aeroponic hydroponics offer a great deal of benefits. Aeroponic kits produce great tasting herbs that bring out mouth watering flavors of your cooking and also produce herbs with medicinal value, as well.

Aeroponic gardening is still relatively new and not many people are aware of it and its many benefits. One thing people do agree on is that once they learn more about it, they all agree it is an interesting process for growing plants without soil. An aeroponic system uses the environment to grow its plants.

Aeroponic kits used to grow herb gardens implement air and mist to grow its plants. It is a natural system for growing herbs from the comfort of your very own home which is great for people who don’t have the luxury of an outside garden. All you would need is the proper room, an aeroponic fogger, aeroponic pump, some seeds, and a little patience.

Since there are people who do this as a living and who know more about landscaping than you do perhaps, you can hire professionals to prepare your plans. If you draw up the plans you might want to show the plans someone their opinion before starting your project. This will save time and money should you not like what the other person has planned.

landscape gardening takes a lot of work. Rather than turning one’s garden into a construction zone, it is best to have this done in phases. This helps keep costs down and makes the plan flexible to changes.

Money can be saved by buying these materials during the “off” seasons. Wood for example is cheaper during the winter months. The price of shrubs and soil are lower when you buy late in the season.

Projects like this are done for the long term. To save on the cost of plants that must been bought and materials to be used as flooring, you may not to buy the cheapest. Those that cost a little more are preferable to others that are cheaper and damage more easily.

Check the local stores that sell gardening equipment and supplies for prices. You can also do some surfing on the web, and by comparing the prices that you can get nearby and those available elsewhere, there is a chance that you can get the same thing at a more affordable price.

After doing all the work, proper maintenance is needed your project looking good throughout the year. You can do by yourself alone by or enlisting the help of a gardener to check on it regularly.

Landscaping is science of transforming the look of a place by altering the flora or fauna, by changing the buildings or other structures, or by making the place weather resistant. People assume landscaping projects to improve or adjust the existing look of their land.

There are corporate landscapers who offer excellent service, but they charge large fees for the same. You can go ahead with your landscaping project by studying certain choices open to you and deciding on the alternative best suited to your needs.

Landscaping sometimes involves making structural transformations to your land, and if you wish to make such transformations, then you will probably need professional help. But if you wish to change and improve your front yard or any extra space you have around your house, you can simply do so by selecting a choice from the various available.

When you change any area, the result should create harmony and all things must be in sync with one another. The colors used must not clash and it should give a visually aesthetic appearance. The placement of various plants and ornamental objects should be just right and not look out of place. If you wish to set up a fountain in your yard, it should be done to create the best result and it should not be an eyesore.

If you live in a community which has water shortage, you can go for drought resistant landscaping also called xeriscaping. This involves developing your yard with such plants which require small amounts of water but will create the effect of a traditional garden. There are varieties of flowering and ornamental plants out there which need very minimal amount of water for sustenance. You can also use up the extra area around you residence and design a rock landscape by selecting various rocks which fit your needs. There are different designs available and you can even decorate the area with a few plants or drought resistant flora. One other alternative would be to make a small pond and fill it up with water lilies or other water loving plants.

Some people would rather go for landscaping to reduce energy costs and save money. You can do so by utilizing energy saving materials like fitting solar garden lights and solar yard lights which do not use power, but get charged with sunlight. Proper placement of trees and plants make sure that your home remains hot or cool according to your need. This leads to lesser heating and cooling costs and also conserves power. You can use solar garden lights to illuminate an area of your garden, and can even fix memorial tributes in your garden.

The most vital thing about landscaping is that there should be harmony of color, line, scale and texture. The colors should not clash, but they should balance one another. It does not mean that you should limit yourself to one or a few colors. You can usedifferent colors but they should not create disharmony.

Ornamental grasses have long been thought of as just added elegance to yards and gardens. However, with the art of container gardening becoming more and more popular, ornamental grasses are being added to containers to help enhance patios, terraces, and entry ways. Believe it or not, when it comes to edible plants so many are perfect for containers that the challenge will be to choose the right one to help strengthen a planter garden.

Because of their low maintenance, ornamental grasses are perfect for containers. These hardy plants require little water, and they need to be fed twice a month with a liquid fertilizer such as Miracle Gro. As long as the container is large and has good drainage, these ornamental plants will thrive and provide beauty unsurpassed by any flower. They also provide movement and sound that flowers cannot offer.

edible plants
Ornamental grasses come is so many varieties a person will have a difficult time choosing just which plant will be used in the container. One type that is perfect for container gardening is Red Fountain Grass. Fountain grasses will fill the container with an arching look and the deep burgundy color of this type of ornamental grasses will accent any dark green foliage that is used in the pot also.

Another grass that is very popular is Japanese Silver Grass. This grass is one of the most popularly grown, and it does just as well in a container as it does in the yard or ground garden. This grass offers a softening effect and the white on the leaf will brighten up any space.

flower box garden
Ornamental grasses are the perfect accompaniment to the popular container garden. Both a flower box garden and a planter garden can be enhanced by adding special ornamental grasses. No matter if a Red Fountain Grass or a Japanese Silver Grass is used, the plants can be accented by the use of grasses.

These are low maintenance plants that require little in the way of care. With the proper flowers accompanying these ornamental plants, a person can unwind and enjoy all that nature has to offer even if they only have a limited amount of time to enjoy these wonderful plants.

Any one who has built raised beds for vegetables will give you an enthusiastic thumbs up if you’re thinking about trying this method yourself. Raised beds provide an efficient use of space and the frames are easy to make and look after.

Raised bed vegetable gardening has lots of advantages over ordinary garden beds in that the soil has better drainage and will warm up earlier in the spring, providing for an earlier harvest.
The raised bed garden is so much easier to maintain. The higher bed means less stooping and bending when weeding or caring for plants and you never have to step in the beds which stops the soil from compacting. Because the soil is cultivated deeper, raised bed vegetable gardening provides an ideal environment for root crops such as beets and carrots and, with the looser soil, crop yields are usually greater. Plus the raised beds simply look neater.

Economical Construction
Raised beds are not necessarily expensive to build because the frames can be built from rough cut or even used lumber. The boards can be painted or stained with a non toxic preservative.
The sides of your raised bed vegetable garden should be at least six inches deep and about four to six feet wide, or just wide enough for you to reach the center from either side without having to step into the bed. The walls of the bed will have to be anchored to stop them from falling over and this is best done by driving stakes at four to six feet intervals on the outside of the frame.
Once the frame is made it is ready to be filled with soil, but not just any soil. The beds should contain a mixture of sand, soil and organic compost material. Using just regular garden soil will cause the beds to pack down and make drainage too hard. Your plants will thrive in the looser soil and it makes an ideal environment for earthworms too.

A Frameless Option
If you don’t have the option of raised beds, because of a limited budget or lack of materials you can still try your hand at raised bed vegetable gardening following a method the Chinese have used for centuries. It’s really more of a mound than a raised bed but will give you many of the same benefits. Mix equal amounts of sand and compost into the soil to build up mounded beds. These frameless beds may need a little more attention to prevent them from eroding or becoming too dry.

Which ever method you pick, raised vegetable gardening will make the chores involved much easier. Raised beds are a great way for those with limited mobility to continue to enjoy a favorite hobby. Your garden can grow as your needs grow, simply by adding new beds and the beds look attractive all year long because clean up in the garden is minimal.

And of course, every gardener deserves a place to relax in the backyard. Why not built a pergola. It’s the perfct place to relax with family and friends or for some well earned solitude.
building a pergola
pergola designs
How to build a pergola

You can do the hard work yourself or hire a handyman to build it for you. It’s certainly a lot cheaper than buying a kit. In fact you could save hundreds of dollars.

Leading horticulture recruitment specialist AndersPlus provide comment on the positive impact of foreign labour on the industry, and what considerations employers need to take into account when trying to recruit the best staff in a difficult market.

Skills Shortage

Down the ages, Britain’s culture and economy has benefited from a tradition of travelling the world and visiting distant lands to seek new ideas, cultures, methods and techniques, then bringing them back and making them our own. The days of empire building and great expeditions may be long gone, but our willingness to learn from other nationalities is now having a profound effect on our horticultural and agricultural industries.

The horticultural industry, similar to numerous other British industries such as education and healthcare, is experiencing the positive impact foreign labour is having on a sector starved of skills and manpower.

There are numerous areas of the industry where migrant workers are providing essential labour, both qualified and unqualified, including hard and soft landscaping, labourers, gardening, horticulture, agriculture and forestry.

But not only are they supplying an urgent service, they are helping to enrich the industry by introducing a diverse range of skills and horticultural traditions.

As a result, looking outside the UK for workers should not simply be about plugging a gap in the workforce, it should also be about employers considering that different nationalities have to offer in terms of skills and horticultural traditions, as well as the more mundane issues of work permits and legal requirements.Who, where, what…

At AndersPlus we have used statistical evidence based on our database of more than 7,000 workers to identify which nationalities make up what proportion of the workforce and the type of roles each national group tends to take.

Nearly half of all non-UK nationals working in the industry are Antipodeans, with Eastern Europeans, predominantly Polish and Slovakian, making up almost a third of the labour force. The remainder of the world constitutes the rest of the workforce.

When evaluating potential candidates for a particular role it is extremely beneficial to remember that some nationalities are particularly suited to specific areas of the industry thanks to their skill set and cultural heritage.

Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans are generally all qualified and appropriate for relevant roles including landscape architects, and hard landscaping with trade skills such as paving, decking and carpentry. New Zealanders specifically tend to fill roles in horticultural plants and nurseries as qualified maintenance gardeners and soft landscapers.

Western Europeans, mainly Spanish, French and Italian, are often very good gardeners and North Americans also tend to occupy this kind of role. The Spanish specifically also tend to specialise in forestry, and he French in soft landscaping.

Amongst the Eastern Europeans, the Polish have a good reputation for hard landscaping such as carpentry and paving, as well as for forestry, while the Czechs fill roles predominantly in nursery, gardening and forestry. Hungarians, meanwhile, are usually general gardeners or labourers, and the majority of Lithuanians and Slovakians take roles in agriculture and labouring.

Legal considerations

Now that you know who is most likely to be appropriate for the role, it is time to give consideration to the legal considerations of employing a worker from overseas. The prospect of employing workers from abroad can be daunting, and the complications involved can sometimes act as barriers, preventing companies from experiencing the benefits of using foreign labour.

English competency

A good level of English competency may seem like an obvious requirement, but with increasing health & safety legislation, a minimum level of understanding is of paramount importance. Inductions, presumably already part of the employment process, will need to consider foreign employees and their level of understanding, particularly when laws in their own country may differ, along with any culturally influenced work practices.

Work permits

Give consideration to the type of Visa or work permit requirements, such as how long, where and what type of work can be undertaken. For example, Bulgarians and Romanians can only work in UK on a self-employed basis.

Qualifications

As qualification standards and education systems differ across the globe it is essential to check relevant qualifications - where they were obtained, the criteria required to meet the standards and their comparability to UK standards and qualifications.

Commitment

Depending on your requirements it important to ascertain how long a potential candidate plans on staying in the UK and their level of commitment.

References

The best candidates will have readily obtainable references that have already been translated into English so ensure you request these.

A good agency will carry out all the necessary checks into work permits, qualifications and references before introducing a candidate and therefore it is only a matter of matching the right person with the job.

A day in the life…

Gavin Jones, a significant commercial landscaping and grounds maintenance company, has been employing a number of workers from overseas for more than 10 years, and have found this resource to be a valuable complement to their local labour force.

By using the combination of direct recruitment and agency assistance, the company now has a dynamic and motivated workforce, having addressed local skills gaps and labour shortages with workers from overseas particularly in the London Area. Throughout a seven-year relationship with the agency, Gavin Jones has consistently used AndersPlus when the company has large projects to be completed at short-notice and require a significant “instant” skilled labour force.

The company has found the use of labour from abroad to be a very positive experience and have generally found staff from overseas, often antipodeans in the London area, to be motivated and able workers. The seasonal nature of horticultural work tends to appeal to those who are working to fund their travels and Gavin Jones migrant workers often fill roles such as operatives (eg gardener) for anywhere between 2 months and 1 year; however there are examples of those who are able to commit for longer filling roles such as Foreman, Supervisor and a even a Contract Manager.

“Although we undertake our own assessment when recruiting,” comments Gavin Day from Gavin Jones, “It’s when we require labour at short notice that we really appreciate the benefits of using an agency. Working with the agency alleviates our liabilities in terms of checking visas, references and other details, reducing the complexities of using labour from overseas and helping us to fill any staff shortages within a very short period of time.”

Due to its large number, orchid species almost can not be mentioned precisely. You may be able to mention orchid species you know one by one but I believe that it just small potatoes when compared to the real count of orchid species. Therefore orchid species almost can not be mentioned precisely due to its wide number.

Orchid blooms are really fantastic, and some plants have exclusive color combinations that make them an attractive and desirable complement to any home. Nevertheless, choosing amongst the orchid species could be a tricky decision. There are more than 25,000 species of orchids. Furthermore, though many ofthese species will not be available in your region, you will still be confronted with choosing amongst a range of beautiful plants.

Popular Orchid Species

Conceivably, the best way to restrict your selections is to observe some of the more popular orchid species. These particular varieties have been developed for their adaptability to a home environment and are relatively easy to care for.

Dendrobiums are at the top of this list. This species of orchids offer a large variety of colors, from white to purple to yellow. Originally found in most of Asia as well as the Philippines, Australia, New Guinea and Borneo, these plants are in big demand. Because of their desirability, hobbyists have created hybrids for this orchid species.

Cattleya is another popular orchid species that is naturally found in parts of South America and Asia. The gorgeous. The colors are usually, white, yellow or a deep purple. An interesting aspect of the Cattleya is that it charmingly spreads out, rather than grows in a compact pattern.

The last of the three most popular orchid species is Vanda. It has a very unique look and exotic flowers. The leaves appear from a single stalk with the flowers growing from one of the leaf’s bases. This is very special because the blossoms can number anywhere from five to twenty per plant. This species originally made its home in Indonesia, China, the Himalayas, Australia and New Guinea.

Choosing the Right Species of Orchids

While these three species of orchids are both popular and stunning, there are literally thousands of varieties in the world. The key to choosing the species that is right for you is dependant on where you live and what type of environment you will be providing the plants. With the escalating demand for orchids, and more people becoming orchid enthusiasts, growers are experimenting and developing new hybrids.

Though the novice seems easy to grow some orchid species, they are often hardier to enjoy for the indoor gardener. If you plan to grow some of orchid species, don’t wait any more. Now is the finest moment to initiate a lifetime hobby of growing these magnificent plants.

Explore more about orchid species, since there are many things you haven’t known and will be answered only if you visit the links here! These guidelines will make you smarter about orchids!

A well manicured garden or lawn can certainly be improved if you add some nice garden furniture. There are some very important aspects when choosing the right furniture as they will to fit into the existing theme. It is delightful to discover that the modern day garden furniture is built on the goals to fulfill the stylish and demanding expectations of the modern day user. Make sure it matches the theme you have.

Wrought Iron Garden Tips,

Compliment your backyard by adding a large bar and a fireplace to create a very cozy outdoor dining room you can enjoy. Take time to choose your furniture carefully. There are many ways you can use your furniture to transform your backyard. Your backyard can be turned into a large outdoor dining area. Your backyard needs to be large enough to house those furniture and embellishments you may like to add later.

Wrought Iron Furniture,

Modern garden furniture comes in a variety of materials from wood based to metal. The modern outdoor furniture can be classic and jazzy at the same time. It is important to be able to spend time to maintain it or it won’t last very long. Outdoor furniture is built with durability but that does not mean you can take them for granted. Your furniture will still need regular maintenance and care whatever the quality level.

Comfort should be the number one priority in your garden furniture when you find one that matches your theme! Cushioned seats are great if you value comfort, love seats would be pretty cool for young couples, and lounges to rocking chairs for lazy evenings outdoors. Place small side tables to let your guests use them to place their drinks or snacks during a conversation. Outdoor furniture is available in a rich spectrum of colors to choose from! Purchase from a collection or you can pick from pieces and mix and match.

Any type of social gathering outdoors requires the use of suitable garden furniture. Large tables that let you entertain more guests at one time would be perfect. For formal settings, oblong tables would be great and you can entertain between ten to twelve guests at the same time but a round table is ideal if the space is smaller and you can have between four to six guests at one time. A bar is essential if you desire an adult entertaining space. There is a wide variety of designs you can choose from to suit your taste and preferences.
Wrought Iron Design

Flower seeds are the perfect way for many to grow beautiful flowers and vegetables. Almost everything that people eat comes from a type of seed. Tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, everything can be grown from a simple seed. However, flower bulbs make wonderful container plants. No matter what type of seed is chosen, a person can have a beautiful flower garden with little to no work at all.

One way to make sure that flower seeds get the proper start is to check the potting mix. Many potting mixes have special nutrients added to the soil in the storage box garden that can help the infant seed to maturity.

flower bulbs
If one is planted deep enough in nutrient enriched soil, then more then likely the seed will grow faster and larger than without added nutrients. So when one chooses a potting mix to help begin flower seeds, make sure that added nutrients are in the mix. The best way to ensure that, is to read all the extras on the potting mix bag.

Petunias are the perfect flower seeds that can be started indoors and transplanted into a garden at a later time. To make sure blooms are ready for the spring, one should start the petunias indoors six to eight weeks before the last frost. Then these small plants can be moved into the garden for a bountiful flower array.

Because they come in so many varieties, colors are not an issue for these heat tolerant plants. They can grow basically anywhere, and as long as they are watered properly, one can enjoy these flowers all season long.

japanese garden design
Flower seeds are the perfect way to make a huge container garden quickly and easily. No matter what type is chosen, a person can treat beautiful flower masterpieces on a raised container herb garden or even a pot.

Flower seeds offer some of nature’s most amazing colors and beauty to behold.

When it comes to garden ornamentation, the selections are endless. You have the realistic, the impractical, the beautiful, the unkempt, the cute, and even the funny ways to decorate your lawn and garden. Sometimes nosy passer-bys can even see memorial tributes that are blended in amongst the decorations. It is not a farfetched thought that you can surmise a homeowner or renter’s personality just a little bit, based upon their means of lawn décor. For example, if a person has religious garden décor with Bible verses adorning it, it is logical to conclude them to be of Christian faith.

Down in the great sunshine state of Florida, there are countless retirement facilities where older people go to retire and enjoy the remainder of their days. In their yards, they take great joy in their garden ornamentation. Not only will you see beautiful plant and flower arrangements, but you will also notice many other items as well. Perhaps you will see a ceramic Mother goose in a cute raincoat followed by a trail of her gosling, also donning raincoats. If you’re an avid traveler who goes RVing from state to state, then you have most likely seen fellow travelers putting out ornamentation surrounding their RV’s in RV camp grounds. An American past time favorite is of course, the infamous pink flamingo lawn ornament.

Let’s look at the suburbs of everyday America. In these overly manicured yards, one will most likely see a subtle plethora of decorations. Maybe it is a simple pink dogwood tree in the corner of the yard with a bench under place could quite possibly be a memorial tribute for a dearly departed loved one. memorial tributes are a way for people to honor and remember family members whom they’ve lost. It’s a way to feel connected, in that quiet place in your yard.

For the environmentally conscious garden designer, there are many routes to take in giving your lawn and garden its spunk. Inexpensive solar garden lights are a very realistic, environmentally sound way to light up your yard art. Be it illuminating a pebble stoned walkway, an adorable rosy cheeked garden gnome, or a stout bird feeder along the bushes, it serves its purpose in an all natural way by taking its energy from the biggest ball of energy of all…the sun. When it comes to solar yard lights, the person whose aim is to ‘go green’ will be super pleased with all the benefits this offers. Extra security in knowing that even in the far most corners of your yard are well lit, it can give you peace of mind. And that is what everybody wants in the long run. Going green gives peace of mind all the way around.

So you have a big lawn and you want to hire professional lawn care help. You have the money, the resources, but not the information you need on who is who in the lawn care service industry.

Lawn Care Services Offer Different Menus

I’m sure you know this, but not all lawn services are created )or managed) equally. What looks good on the side of a new work truck may not translate into that golf course turf you are trying to get. Lawn care services are varied. Most colorful publicity by lawn care companies can quickly attract customers but will be as quickly disappointed by the quality they get.

Most of the time, these colorful ads hide the poor quality, and vice versa, dull publicity masks the great company it carries. Publicity is just publicity; it never answers the question on who is the best at lawn care service. The best advice still is to seek advice, referral and even opinions from friends and people who have used lawn care services you are considering.

Referrals Of Lawn Care Services

Referrals from happy customers are always a nice way to find the best lawn care company for your dollar. They are the right path in discovering a good lawn service provider. Asking for referrals from friends and family may give you useful and reliable information about the services and products that the company actually provides.

Through referrals, you will be able to know as well if there are some extra costs and hidden charges.

Referrals help you save time and effort in looking for quality lawn care companies. We all know manually searching for lawn care companies in the yellow pages is tiresome, and sometimes even ends up with no luck.

On a final note, it is always best to start in the very early spring searching for a lawn service. The reason is because a lot of them book up fast! Believe it or not, most regional or local lawn operators are only able to bring on 50-60 new customers each year. You don’t want to be caught out in the cold with no lawn provider when March arrives! Start now so you can choose the best provider for your lawn needs.
More info on lawn fungus treatment and dog urine lawns here.

Home landscaping design is a very creative field, and you can experience an immense sense of satisfaction and self-fulfillment once you see your finished product.

By seeing the fruits of your labor on your lawn, you can learn that with enough hard work, innovation and creativity, you can have the perfect backyard or front lawn that will be the envy of your neighbors.

Here are some do-it-yourself landscaping your front yard tips:

1. Survey the general area that you want to landscape and make a plan.

Some home owners end up with a lousy yard landscapingbecause they did not plan well. They just fill up any empty space with plants, without considering the aesthetic design.

For you to succeed in designing your lawn and yard landscaping for your home, sit down and make a rough sketch. Assign areas where you would like to put the plants. Arrange them in such a way that there will be some order, without sacrificing the beauty of your surroundings.

If you plan to use garden furniture, place it in a strategic place where it will be enjoyed.

Remember to stick to your plan once it is finished.

2. Know the reason why you would like front yard landscaping for your lawn.

The main objective of residential landscaping is to maximize the potential of the excess land that you have. Some think that just because you have a grassy area outside the house, it would qualify as a landscaped lawn.

There are a lot of alternative landscaping designs that you can choose to beautify your surroundings.

3. Choose the proper theme for your landscape design.

Research which plants and trees and determine which are best for surviving the seasons of your area. There are shrubs that are appropriate and will do well in your lawn area during the summer season. During the autumn season, there are trees that you can plant that will show off the beauty of your garden.

Just imagine all the colors that will contribute to your landscape design if you select a plant, shrub, flower or tree that blooms or has colorful foliage and looks beautiful during each season of the year.

4. Once you have decided on the plants, make sure that you water them well.

One of the mistakes that homeowners have after they finish their landscape design is insufficient irrigation. Make sure that you water and fertilize your plants according to their needs.

If you are going to be away from home, have somebody do the watering for you. Otherwise, you will end up with an ugly, dried-out lawn and/or garden.

Hanging baskets are wonderful sights to behold. If a person does a little research, they can learn how to create their own hanging basket that can rival that of the local nursery. If one starts a flower bed with tiny seeds, the wait time for a bountiful garden may be increased, but if one know how to start the seeds beforehand, that time can be cut in half.

flower box gardens
When making hanging baskets, a person should choose their plants carefully. Instead of buying just the regular begonia or petunias that normally appear in a hinging basket, a person should consider buying long-trailing plants that can create volume to any home made basket.

This can make for a stunning hanging basket once the plants are fully grown. Also to consider is the color scheme. Short trailing plants will also help enhance a basket if they are placed just right. They can be planted on the sides for added color and depth.

Another thing that is critical for making bountiful hanging baskets is to be picky about the potting mix that is used. Hanging baskets are very difficult to keep moist once they dry out.

planter box garden
A way to ensure that this does not happen is to add humus based potting mix to the regular soil that one chooses. Another good tip for a hanging basket is to add a slow release fertilizer at planting and this will help to ensure that these ornamental plants thrive beyond what is expected.

Hanging baskets can be customized to reflect one’s space and personality. If a person does a little research, the right plants and soil mixture can be found so that they work in harmony together to produce amazing plants. You can even use other gardening ideas like a container herb garden and organic container gardening to increase the number of plants on the patio.

With a little water, fertilizer, and tender loving care, the plants in hanging baskets will thrive and produce results that will make even the most master of gardens jealous. Everyone who has a thumb no matter if it is black or green can make a hanging basket work for them.

Today, it is not enough that you have a home. A lot of homeowners today put a lot of importance to how their home looks, and one thing that they take care of is their lawn. Not all homeowners know how to take care of their lawn, however. That is why lawn care companies exist. Looking for the best lawn care companies can be a challenge for first time home owners. Some will just contact those that are first on the yellow pages. Before you contact one you must already have a plan on how your lawn will look like.

After figuring out what you want determine how much you are willing to spend for this kind of service. If you want high-quality lawns for sure it will cost you a lot of money. But if you only want your lawn maintained and not too much work then a minimal fee may only be charged. So when you already have a lawn care company in mind, read through the services that they offer. With the idea in mind you will be able to describe to them properly what result you want are expecting. They in turn, will be able to provide you with a quotation to see if it will fit your budget. Some lawn care companies will give you a pretty good deal especially when you are a new customer.

For some, you can also look for reviews about the lawn care companies that you are interested in. Since lawn care companies are pretty much popular today, you can ask friends, relatives or neighbors that have already hired the services of a specific lawn care company. By following these simple advices you will be able to look for the lawn care company that suits your need.
More information about Georgia lawn services can be found here.

Outdoor water fountains, available in a wide variety of unique and charming designs, can lend any garden a substantial amount of character, class, and style. Of course, your garden water fountain is a part of your garden itself, and does not necessarily exist as its “own entity.” In other words, when you shop for a garden fountain, keep your garden’s overall theme in mind. For example, is your garden mostly flower based, or is it mostly covered with green plants? Do stone fountains work better than metal fountains in your design? Victorian style gardens are very popular these days; try unique, angel-designed garden fountains to give your garden that timeless Victorian appeal.

The gardener in me really appreciates urban gardening because this is the area that I feel urban gardening began.

For centuries the inhabitants of Mediterranian have used the art of window box planting, hanging clay planters as they managed to garden and add beauty to their small personal spaces.

These people even knew how to compost in a small space by using containers in their homes where they added organic scrapes from their daily foods such as peelings, leftover vegetables and fruits and then adding a few worms.

Many gardeners in our cities are starting to have this European mindset. We are now seeing roof top gardens. Though most cities will not allow hanging planters and window boxes we are seeing these things on condo patios. These containers will easily create focal points on your patio. Plus they will give you a sense of beauty and charm when you sit amongst them.

Community gardens are now becoming part of the urban gardening scene.

We are seeing more and more self watering containers for use on patios and hanging planters. This is a great boon for the urban gardener. In these you can plant flowers that will feed the soul and you can also plant vegetables to feed your body. Plus the working urbanite that may not be home for a few days at a time does not have to worry about the watering.

A good self watering container cuts down on the attention you need to give it. However, basically any container that has about 5 holes drilled into the bottom of it will create a good reservoir for your plantings. These types of containers will need a water catching dish or container base under them. For large, heavy containers you will do well to put some roller bases under them for easy moving around because most things you plant will need about 4 hours of sun a day. Plus strong storms may require you rolling them into a protective area.

Remember to use good organic soil. Get help and advice from your local organic nursery. The easiest plant to start with is the old stand by, the tomato! It is usually easier to buy a plant or two then to buy a pack of seeds. Cherry and grape tomatoes are wonderful in containers, especially hanging ones. Whatever kind you buy will probably need to be staked if you do not use a hanging pot. Staking is easy and one does it as the plant grows. You can use gardening wire or loops or basically an organic piece of hemp or string.

Lettuce is always an easy urban gardening vegetable to grown. A few large pots filled with good organic soil will give you basically all you need for salads. I like to mix the salad greens or you can even buy packets of mixed greens today. Just sprinkle a few on the top of your soil and gently cover with another light layer of soil, then gently water and keep it watered. About a week or so later create another pot and do the same thing. I like my pots to be about 12 to 18 inches in diameter for this type of salad garden.

Believe it our not, one can even do cucumbers in hanging pots or basically any kind of pot. I like to grow the small pickling cucumber because they grow quickly and are delicious without peeling. Just make sure you wash them well because even though, as an organic gardener, you will not use pesticides, there are a lot of “things” in the urban air from soot to acid rain and you need to wash all you veggies before you eat them.
